The Kiawah Women’s Foundation operates a variety of programs to support children and families in our community, with our Backpack Buddies Program being the most recognized. Through this program, we help combat childhood hunger for students from preschool through 8th grade by providing nutritious food for the weekends. While schools supply breakfast and lunch during the week to children who qualify for free or reduced meals, we extend that support by sending home bags of food each Friday. The bags are discreetly placed into students’ backpacks and distributed to children identified by school counselors and social workers as being most in need.
